
Mrs Nkemdilim Uwaje Begho began her professional career in Germany, where she worked on high profile research projects at the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Psychiatric Research in the department for Statistical Genetics and Proteomics, as well as for the Pharmaceutical Company Affectis Pharmaceuticals AG, Germany.
She graduated from the Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) & Technical University Munich (TUM), Germany, where she received a BSc. Hons in Bioinformatics. Her entrepreneurial journey really started with Future Software Resources Limited, and she has been at the helm of the business ever since.
Prior to her appointment at Future Software Resources Nigeria Ltd, Mrs Uwaje-Begho was involved in various research projects, such as the Wazobia Linux initiative, the EGovernment Interoperability Framework, NITDA Open Standards Framework, as well as the deployment of e-commerce and e-portal solutions in the Nigerian public and private sector.
Respected and recognised as a leader in her industry, Mrs Uwaje has been in the IT/tech business for about 15 years. She’s a recipient of many awards including the Jim Ovia Prize for Software Excellence and the Etisalat Prize for Innovation. She regularly volunteers for mentoring and empowerment programmes often sharing her experiences with young Nigerians and less privileged children.
She is recognised as a 2019 Obama African Leader, Forbes’s Top Ten Female Tech Founders to watch in Africa, Global Digital Women top 10 Most Inspiring Women in Africa, Lionesses of Africa top 100 Women, YTech Top 100 most Innovative in the Nigerian Tech space, Ventures Africa 42 most Innovative Africans and has been named one of 8 Lord’s Achievers in 2019, as well as one of the top 100 Most Influential People of African Descent.
In December 2023, Nelson Mandela University conferred an Honorary Doctorate in Information Technology on Nkemdilim in recognition of her impactful contribution to technology ecosystems and policy development across Africa.
She serves on the Boards of the Society for Corporate Governance in Nigeria, the Lagos State Research and Innovation Council (LASRIC), The BudgIT Foundation, ESG in Action Africa Limited and the Afara Development Initiative. Nkemdilim also served in the leadership of the Digital Economy Policy group of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group NESG, which is focused on influencing and advocating for policy development that creates an enabling environment.
