
Chuma Nwokocha is a seasoned banking executive and chartered accountant with over three decades of leadership experience across Africa. He has held several Chief Executive and Board-level roles in leading financial institutions, driving strategic growth, governance, and operational excellence. He has honed his skills in leading high performing teams and his expertise spans retail and corporate banking, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory engagement, as well regional expansion. He also possesses a strong track record of board governance, financial oversight, and strategic transformation across pan-African enterprises.
Prior to his appointment as the Chief Executive of Stanbic IBTC Holdings PLC, Chuma served as a Regional Managing Director at Access Bank, overseeing operations in Angola, Botswana, Mozambique, Zambia and green field expansion into Namibia.
Before joining Access Bank PLC, Chuma served as Chief Executive of Standard Bank, SA (the Mozambican subsidiary of the Standard Bank Group), having also served in several leadership capacities across the bank Head of Finance, Chief Operating Officer and Head of Personal & Business Banking between 2005 and 2022 he was in the bank. He spent five years in KPMG Mozambique as an Expatriate Manager between 2000 and 2005.
A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), having trained with Coopers & Lybrand and subsequently working with PricewaterhouseCoopers, he is also an alumnus of Harvard, MIT Sloan, Oxford, and Henley Business School.
